Online Advertisements Coming To a Screeching Halt

Everyone may feel the crunch as the financial crisis on Wall Street hovers like a black cloud over many businesses. The ad industry’s annual conference, which is being held in New York, has online marketers buzzing about the effects this will have to online advertisement.  Companies are expected to slow Internet-based advertising over the next 6 months. Many companies re making severe budget cuts and the world wide web of advertisement are becoming unraveled.

Companies tend to be less venturous when budgets are tight, while spending will still be available for online advertisement for some, the majority of those will stick to proven methods. The experimental avenues that have been tried and are still being tested will suffer the hardest hits from this crisis. Social Networks, while becoming a popular way to advertise, will see a difference in ad dollars, as companies will not want to spend the few precious ad dollars they have on methods that “might” work. Proven methods, such as advertising alongside the large sites like Google or Yahoo will likely not notice a difference, as they are the proud and true to getting noticed and driving traffic to your business.

Researcher’s had already cut back on online advertisement spending, even before the Wall Street crisis. eMarketer had already cut projections for Internet ad spending this year to $24.9 billion, and a second revision in the already cut budget was scheduled for Oct.  The firm stated they estimate the Internet advertising growth to slow to 17% this year and to 14.5% the following year. With the gloomy economic outlook for most companies, the spending will have to redirected and go towards venues they know will increase sales, no longer experimenting with new avenues of marketing. This can create a huge hit for smaller Internet marketing companies. So do not expect to start up an online advertisement business and make a quick fortune, the decline in dollars spent will be mostly felt by the new guys.
