Promoting your business online is an essential part of building a successful company. LinkedIn has now become the latest social networking site to enable businesses to promote their image and products in a more pro-active way.
The branding methods are still in beta at the moment but early indications are extremely positive. The company pages are well thought out, clearly presented and very smooth. The top of the page has a banner that tells visitors more about the company and what it stands for. Underneath this there is room for information about the company’s products and services.
While the design of the page is clearly meant to help companies promote their goods and services through the professional social media site, it is not overly promotional. Somehow it manages to tread the fine line between getting the information across and not looking like a sales page.
It will be interesting to see how LinkedIn progresses from this point. Since the branding opportunity is still in beta at present we could expect further changes to take place before the beta period ends. However the early indications are promising and several major companies are already trying out the facilities and making good use of them.
Perhaps the most interesting part of the experiment will not be how the companies fare with the new facilities, but how the other members of the site interact with them. If they aren’t impressed the whole branding opportunity could have plenty more work to do yet.
