Looking for a slimmer smartphone with a bigger screen? You’re in luck because Apple has just unveiled its latest smartphone, the new iPhone 5. Analysts expect the phone to be a success, just like previous models.

Tim Cook, Chief Executive of Apple, said the launch was “the biggest thing to happen” since the iPhone was introduced.

Jeff Wender, Senior Vice President of Nielsen, said buyers will be drawn to the iPhone 5 as it features a slimmer and wider four-inch (10 centimeter) screen.

Called “the thinnest smartphone in the world,” the iPhone 5’s body is made from aluminium and glass, making the device 20 per cent lighter and 18 per cent thinner than the iPhone 4S.

The new iPhone 5 features Apple’s new A6 processor, which makes loading Web graphics two times faster.

The screen size, apps, operating system, features, and price will be the purchase drivers of this new smartphone, said Phil Schiller, Marketing Chief at Apple.

Apple also addressed issues related to battery life, with mobile browsing extended up to eight hours and ten hours when connected to Wi-Fi. The company also integrated the Facebook application into the new iPhone 5, upgraded its voice-activated assistant Siri, and also customised the phone’s mapping program.

Another change to this new iPhone is the Lightning connector that can connect iPhone and iPod touch devices to other accessories such as car sound systems and stereo speakers.

With all these features and more, the new iPhone 5 is expected to rake in tens of millions of sales in the next few months.
