Columbia business professor Brendan Burns is the startup guru

Start-up businesses need money, and Brendan Burns knows that process better than almost anyone. Over the years, he has raised approximately $40 million (£32.21 million) in equity from investors.

By day he is a businessman and an entrepreneur-in-residence at Connecticut Innovations, helping fledging companies grow.

By night, Burns is an adjunct associate professor at Columbia Business School (CBS). He teaches MBA students about startups with course names such as The Entrepreneurial Greenhouse, Launch Your Startup, and Launching New Ventures.

Professor Burns has spent more than 20 years starting, growing and managing businesses. Our interview focused on raising capital for start-up businesses.
